Individual change is difficult on a large scale

Posted on | October 5, 2009 | No Comments

The expectation that individuals via their choices in the market will drive energy transformation in the right direction and at the necessary pace is very optimistic.

Even in companies where the managers declare the shift to new strategies and operational procedures it is difficult to get people to change in the expected way. Employees need large amounts of training and support in order to change their ways of working in concert with the rest of the organization.

In any situation where change is an imperative, only the most motivated and easily adjusted individuals tend to manage change by themselves. In order to drive change in whole organizations or in society, a project is needed. Regardless of which goal we want to achieve, we need to run projects to achieve it. We need to show people how, and we also need to develop the tools for them to manage change. We need tools to:

- Reduce the need of transportation

- Reduce the energy used in industrial processes

- Reduce the energy used at home

- Reduce petroleum use in agriculture

- Change to ecological farming

, or whichever other change we want to achieve. It is highly unlikely that we will arrive at the expected results without a change plan and change management.
